Why we featured this role

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is the regional political and economic union of fifteen West African countries. Its Young Graduates Immersion Programme places graduates inside ECOWAS departments, agencies, and resident representations for a 12-month non-renewable placement, with a monthly stipend, mentorship, and leadership development. Open to graduates from any ECOWAS member state aged 32 or under, holding a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD — any discipline. Note that placements may be in any ECOWAS institution across the region, not necessarily in Nigeria, and the programme requires full-time availability for the full 12 months, so it suits graduates who have completed NYSC. Applications require a motivation letter to the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, CV, ID, and academic certificates. Candidates may apply to a maximum of two positions. Deadline: August 31, 2026.

About ECOWAS

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), known as CEDEAO in French, is a regional political and economic union of fifteen countries in West Africa, covering over 5.1 million square kilometres and a population exceeding 349 million. Established to foster collective self-sufficiency among member states and create a single large trading bloc through economic cooperation, ECOWAS also plays a central role in promoting democracy and stability in the region, managing migration flows, and coordinating the fight against poverty. It operates through a network of departments, agencies, resident representations, and specialised institutions across West Africa.

About the role

The ECOWAS Young Graduates Immersion Programme welcomes young African professionals into ECOWAS institutions to help shape the future of regional integration in West Africa. Over 12 months, participants gain practical experience in policy, administration, project management, and regional development while working alongside experienced staff in an established international organisation. Placements are made within ECOWAS Departments, Agencies, Resident Representations, and Institutions, with specific positions defined ahead of each programme cycle based on the needs of host structures. Selection is carried out by a Technical Selection Committee.

What you'll do

  • Complete a 12-month full-time immersion placement within an ECOWAS institution
  • Support policy, administration, project management, or regional development work
  • Contribute to regional integration initiatives across West Africa
  • Participate in mentorship, training, and leadership development activities
  • Work collaboratively within an international, multilingual regional organisation

What we're looking for

  • Citizen of an ECOWAS member state (Nigeria included)
  • Aged 32 years or under at the time of application
  • Bachelor's (BSc), Master's, PhD, or equivalent certificate — any discipline
  • Available full-time for the entire 12-month duration
  • Application documents: motivation letter to the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, CV (PDF), national ID or passport, and academic certificates

Compensation & benefits

  • Monthly stipend for the full duration of the programme
  • 12-month professional immersion within a leading African regional organisation
  • Experience in policy, administration, project management, and regional development
  • Mentorship, training, and leadership development
  • International work exposure across West Africa and a strong CV credential
